Big Mountain Productions is headed by Philip McGovern and Jane Kelly.

Philip McGovern and Jane Lelly

Jane has 17 years experience as a producer, director and senior executive working in production across a range of genres from factual to entertainment to comedy. She is also a former presenter and broadcaster as well as a recent author.

Jane joined the BBC as a Graduate Trainee, producing and directing News and Current Affairs in the New York Bureau and worked on ‘Newsnight’ and ‘Public Eye’ as well as Arts shows ‘The Late Show’,‘Arena’ and ‘Clive James’.

She produced Education documentaries and series for BBC and Popular and Specialist Factual programming including a flagship Arts series for BBC NI and a post IRA ceasefire ground breaking documentary uncovering the

hidden poetry of the paramilitaries and security forces in NI and re-broadcast on The World Service.

Jane has produced and directed series and one-off documentaries for both British and Irish Commercial and Public Service Broadcasters including a documentary with Colin Parry whose son was killed in an IRA explosion in Warrington for Granada Television. She produced and directed documentaries behind-the-scenes on the QE2 and the world of hairdressing as well as two popular primetime gardening series for BBC 1 NI, observational documentary series on the Irish abroad for RTE and sea-going families for TG4.

In comedy, Jane produced and directed two studio and location-based comedy series with comedienne Nuala McKeever for UTV.

As PD, then Series Producer, Jane secured four series of the Daytime painting travelogue, Awash With Colour for BBC 2, four series of Fish Out of Water  - a Fact/Ent swap series for BBC1 NI and two series of Family S.O.S – a Fact/Ent popular psychology series with Prof. Geoffrey Beattie.

Becoming Head of Development with a local Indie she specialised in returning formatted fact/ent series.  Recent executive credits include What If (a BBC1 fact/ent series pilot) and ‘Second Chance Honeymoon’, a 6 x 60’ factual entertainment series for Living TV.

 

Philip has 25 years experience in television production across popular factual, comedy and entertainment genres for the BBC and RTE. 

Before setting up Big Mountain, he executive produced Bruce Goes Dancing, a 2 X 60’ fact/ent series for prime time BBC 1. 

Freelance credits during this period include series producing and casting The Restaurant (VIP for RTE) –a celebrity driven formatted fact/ent series, House of Love (RTE) – a live studio based entertainment series and Century Farm (BBCNI) – a location-based living history series.

Philip has worked for DEF II Janet Street Porter’s revolutionary youth dept. for BBC Network, was an AP in his earlier days on BBC NI’s controversial live topical/entertainment series The Show and more recently was a Network Development Executive for BBC NI where he executive produced Turf Wars (BBC 2), What If (BBC 1) and Like a Hurricane – the Alex Higgins story.

For RTE, where Philip was a staff Senior Producer/Director for nine years, his credits include the live comedy entertainment series Nighthawks, weekly chat show ‘For One Night Only’, the youth strand JMTV, fashion magazine Head To Toe, and won an IFTA (Irish Film & TV Award) as series producer of the arts series Cursai Ealaine.

While at RTE he also specialised in gripping contemporary documentaries and current affairs. For Prime Time Special; ‘Fire’, For Prime Time credits include: ‘The Secret Baby Trail’, The Scandal of Brid McCole and Hep C’. He covered Northern Ireland during the period leading up to the first and second IRA ceasefires, making the first documentary on the PUP and made ‘In the Line of Fire’ a docu/drama examining the controversial circumstances of the killing of Karen O’Reilly. While with RTE he initiated a series Never The Same Again, featuring the story of Monica Hall, a nurse imprisoned for the supposed murder of her best friend in Saudi Arabia. Death in France – the Killing of Trevor O’Keefe told the story of one woman’s 16 year battle for justice to bring the murderer of her son to justice. Inspired by uncovering an old archive film, Doohoma chronicled the life of one Irish family over three generations’.
